EMDR Therapy

Feeling like traditional talk therapy won’t work for you?

Maybe you’re thinking talk therapy will send you in circles. After all, you know why you feel the way you do – but you’re still stuck. Nothing seems to change, no matter how hard you try.

I hear you. I really hear you!

I am a big, big fan of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) because I know what wonders it can do. But for some clients, TF-CBT on its own just doesn’t feel like it’s digging deep enough.

Enter: EMDR.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing – which is a mouthful that basically means we use something called “bilateral stimulation” to access the places in the brain where challenging memories get stored.

As you think of a difficult memory, we’ll stimulate the two sides of your brain in one of a few different ways: through what you see with your eyes, hear with your ears, or feel with your hands through a tapping motion. And nope! It doesn’t hurt at all.

This process works to take the emotion out of that memory, even without reliving it in detail.

Does EMDR really work?

If you’re thinking that EMDR sounds a little far-fetched, I don’t blame you!

Hey, we spend a lot of time hearing that we alone are responsible for our thoughts and feelings…

So it can feel like we’re believing in magic to accept that there’s a way to bypass our conscious thoughts and make bad memories seem less bad

But hear me out – because not only does EMDR really work, it works really well.

And that’s because our brains are doing things we’re not even aware of. So when we have experiences, sometimes the signals get mixed. Our brain links that experience with fear or sadness or insecurity – long after the moment has passed.

EMDR helps you remove that negative association and replace it with feelings that are more balanced and ultimately less upsetting. It’s become a standard therapeutic practice for treating PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, even issues of self-esteem…

And it can work quickly, in just a few sessions for a single memory.

I use EMDR therapy to help my clients feel less impacted by painful memories.

You won’t lose your memories or suddenly forget things that have happened to you. Quite the opposite, actually – you’ll be able to reflect back on those memories as parts of your past and see them through new eyes, with a fresh perspective.

Through EMDR therapy, we can address the roots of your anxiety…

The traumas you’ve experienced.

We can help you process and deal with abuse or victimization.

You can regain control over your past, present, and future by unpacking the really deep, sticky emotions your brain just can’t seem to let go of.

So yes, EMDR does really work.

And I’m so excited to see how it will help you on your journey!

Do you use EMDR for Children?

Yes! As a certified EMDR therapist, I am able to use EMDR for children and teens, as well as adults.

Anyone can have painful memories, and EMDR can be a great tool for helping us process those memories – at any age. The concept is the same, and I use age-appropriate methods to work with all of my clients.

Can you do EMDR online?

Also yes! We can do EMDR therapy online, via telehealth – not just in person.

I’m happy to offer virtual EMDR sessions, so don’t let that stop you from reaching out!
